If you need a batery try this site. Best price I could find on the Odyssey battery.

Dayum dude, don't cop to anything, especially killing your battery. That's a minimum 25 years to life.

That is The BEST ADVICE.... Buy a New Battery. You are Taking it to The dealer..Then Picking It Up from Dealer... Charging it...Tender it.. OH MY... Ya Just spent Quality Time Yucking Around and driving all over Creation for a 3/4 good Battery at best. GO Buy a Battery... Your Piece of Mind is Worth the $$$$ .

My Thoughts.... Not Worth Crap. "Country Fried & THE MULE"

Default Update

Had the battery charged at the local station. He said he could only get 8 volts out of it.

Looks as if I need a new battery.

I'm taking recommendations for a new battery.

You can't go wrong w/HD batteries...for the money - they're the best bang. You can search for cheaper, but get what you pay for. IMO - go w/HD...

I just bought a new Deka from here.

http://www.bohannonbattery.com/html/deka.html

Deka makes the HD OEM batteries and it was a exact match. HD Was 139.00 @ the dealer plus tax.
Bohannon battery was 99.00 delivered to my door.
I know you can buy cheaper ones at Wal-mart but those haven't lasted for me.

I've heard that if you allow a gel filled battery charge go all of the way down, it will kill the battery for good. I'm not sure about that though. As already mentioned, a Battery Tender will take a long time to recharge a completely dead battery.

that happened to mine too and the tender did not have enough juice to bring it back ....I used a trickle charger 2 amps and brought it back to where the tender was able to take over....chargers can over charge and tenders cannot...be aware if you leave it hooked up to the bike...battery is still good 2 years later

Maybe your battery was old already but draining the battery once will not cause permanent damage because it takes time for the lead plates to get eaten away. I've done similar things to batteries in the past and had no trouble with them once they were recharged.

The key to recovery is to slow charge it for as long as it takes. Once it's charged up, then test it.

And I have used a battery tender. Took a few days on a car battery but it worked.
