To do a proper ccp you need a fully charged battery, remove the aircleaner hold the Throttle wide open (on carb hold the slide up) ground both plugs and turn it over until the guage stops climbing.

Leak down is only half of the tests, you must do both leak down and compression. HOT to get an acurrate measure!

OK. I am out voted here. I always thought that a leak down test was a better way to determine if the rings were going bad...along with valves and seals. But I am not an expert. So how about compression test, and if you get low reading then leak down? But if you got readings within range then no need for leak down?

Just as important is that the compression of both cylinders are within 5-10 lbs of one another. Personally I prefer a 5 lb or less differential.

Compression test first, then leak down...............HOT, cold motor #'s dont give you the real story in there!

Compression test will tell you if something is wrong. Leakdown test will help you identify if is is rings, or valves

if compression is low,,, put a little oil in sparkplug hole .. ,check comp again,, if its higher, its indicates rings...if it didnt raise the compression , tends to be valve related
