Default Tail Light bulb for an 02 Ultra

Ok, I've looked in my manual and all over here. I've pulled the TL assembly off to see how to change the bulb and which bulb it is as I'm thinking of upgrading the bulb to an LED. I've done this in my Avy with the reverse lights and just had to do a simple bulb swap. I know there are bulbs out there that are made for this application.

Problem is, I can't seem to get the red lens off of the housing.

Question is, does it come apart and if so, How?

Thanks
Mike

On mine there are two screws on each side of the lens, unscrew them and pull the lens off of the base. The base stays on the bike.

Thanks. That's what I would have thought. The whole assembly came off and almost seems like the lens is glued onto the base. I was afraid to try to separate the two before I knew for sure. They stuck together pretty good. I didn't want to try to pry it apart for fear of breaking something. Any suggestions?

Ah grasshopper, look in your parts manual and you will see that the red lens and base are separate. It should come off unless some nimrod before you glued it on. All else fails, try some hot, hot water and pour it over it and then try to pop it off. Maybe just sealed on there pretty good.

Just give it a good tug. It'll come off once the 2 screws are out. Mine was tight too the first time I tried to seperate it.

I went wondering down to the local indie looking for other things and took it with me. Seems that it's all one piece and the bulb and socket are just a rubber plug that pulls out of the back of it. The parts manual I have shows it as a good ol 1157 bulb that pulls out of the front. Couldn't decypher that the socket and all come out of the back. Pix when I get home in case my rambling is confooooosing for some.

Ignore what I said then. That's not the tail light I was thinking of. Sorry.
