I grew up in North Georgia and it never ceases to amaze me what passes for a cabin these days. More like a castle...

I would like to hear people's take that have been there, but for now I am on the fence about going there for a few reasons. I hear stories from some guys at work that went there and say it is pretty crazy riding that stretch, because you have semi's that should not even be on that road taking up both lanes forcing you onto the soft shoulder or into the trees. Then you have guys on bikes that use it as a race track when all you want to do is cruise thru the turns.

I live 30 mintues away from the Dragon...yes you hear stories about the semi's and yes it happens but for the most part they are few and far between...As for the Crotch Rockets yes they are here but mostly on the weekends....If you ride the Dragon during the week you will think that you are out in the middle of no where (which you are) very little traffic during the week. Also there are OTHER great roads in the area...Cherohala Skyway, Hwy 360, Hwy 95 (through Greenback), if you go to Bristol, TN you have US 421....Then on NC side you have US 28...ALL great roads, just ride the Dragon on a weekday and all is good!!

Though i am the organizer of this trip,i have heard and done my research and have heard the stories also. One of the reasons why we are leaving on thursday is that on friday mourning i figure most people will be at work so it might be less bikes and cars on the road there for that stretch. We are going to do some nice riding on saturday mourning up in tennessee so if anyone have any great roads that we can ride on while up at the top of the dragon please let me know.

Heyyy,

Just a little info from a local on the "Dragon". I live about an hours ride from this stretch of highway. It's not as bad as the horror stories I have heard from some. The rules of the road in the mountains is...if your slower pull to the side in a pull off strip to let faster traffic go by. Last year they have added many new pull offs on the dragon that are paved and long enough for a bike to slow down and allow others to pass. I haven't even had to stop, just slow down pull to the pull off and wave the sport bikes by. Stay in the right side of your lane and wave others by, they will pass quickly and you can continue on your way without worry of someone pressuring you from behind. Most are courtious enought on this stretch and other mountain roads. Just don't go with the attitude that it is your road f**k everyone else. I have been thru this area about a dozen times and not run into a semi, tho I have heard of others encountering them. There are a lot of great rides in the same area. Look into the Cherohala Skyway, Natchez Trace Natural Forest and if you want to get a little farther out Hwy 116, the Devils Triangle are all great rides. Just go with the intention of having a good ride and don't act like a Flatlander that won't pull over. Enjoy the ride and keep your knees in the breeze.

we go every year in june ,love it there!!! any road you take will be a good ride , if your group likes to gamble the you have to go to the casino in cherekee n.c. plus there's good rides from there in any direction , as far as the dragon goes just ride it with common sense and you'll be just fine , just let those dumb crotch rockets do their death wish alone !!!!you can see bears and other wildlife on any of the rides ,with us we always run out of time before were ready to leave ,we've been going in june for about 10 years now and still haven't rode all the roads ,have fun and be safe . watch your speed too!!!!!!
