Saving the motorcycle business....one bike at a time

It's not up to the consumer to save the buisness. A good buisness can save itself or better yet doesn't need saving. Times are tough right now and everybody's feeling the pinch. I think I got a good deal on my bike in Sept. and have had excellent service since. I feel lucky to have a good local dealer. If they don't give me a fair price on my next bike i'll go down the road till I find a dealer that will, but i'll still come back for service as long as they treat me right and do good work.

Depends what and when you buy. I'd say you're situation is lucky. Having said that the dealer I just bought my Limted from was making really good deals on Street Glides and Road Glides (1500 to 2K under) back in November.

That dealer is full of it. It's true every dealer sells their bikes at certain profit margin, which is high, somewhere around 18-25% I believe. When I go to buy a bike, I just have about 3 or dealers quote me a price, and I make sure each dealer knows that I'm getting prices from other dealers, and the guy with the best price gets my money.
Also I wouldn't hesatate one bit about buying a 2009, It's still under warranty, and any dealer would gladly do work on it.

Well, I did my part. I bought a new 2010 EGC on 12/29. I didn't support my local dealers though. Why? Because they suck? It seems like the big dealers in K.C. are still living under the misconception that you will buy above MSRP. I have no problem buying at MSRP, but above MSRP? NO WAY. Especially in the winter months. The first dealer I went to quoted me $4k over MSRP. What is that guy smokin? I bought my bike for $800 under MSRP, got accessories for 20% off list at time of purchase with free installation. I think I did OK. Plus I got more than I thought I would on my trade.

I have to TOTALLY agree with the "smaller is better" opinion in my experience. I got my 2010 STreet Glide back in early december, from a nice little dealer that happens to be closest to me, for almost $3000 off MSRP.
On the flip side i was at another dealer last week, about 5 minutes further away and about 10 TIMES THE SIZE. They had a 2006 Street Glide with almost 30,000 miles on it and the sticker had it "ON SALE" for about $500 less then i paid for my brand new bike that had 3 miles on it...
