Hey, THANKS!! Would like for the leather to cover most of the bottle so it doesn't show. The MSR bottle is a bright red. Would prefer it not show much while on the bike, especially riding through Canada next summer with the high price of petrol up there. Might disappear quickly in a parking lot!!

Jim,
I carry two of the MSR bottles in my Ultra's side bag storage. 2 of them fit nicely in the front of the bag, side by side. I put things I might need, but don't use often in the bags. Tool kit, flat repair with pump (I've needed that), quart of oil, heated vest. I actually try to put the even less used items on the left side, harder to get to the bag. Fill them up and forget about them during the trip, cheap insurance if needed.

Yes, just went out to the garage and the two 30oz bottles do fit just about perfectly side by side in front of the saddlebag. You are right, I shouldn't need them at all, but hidden away is good cheap insurance!! Sounds like I don't need to worry about any leaking either. They do seem to be well made and sealed. I normally only carry my tools, oil, rags, and other trip items that I don't need very often in the left saddlebag, so that should work great. Don't think I will put my expensive Gerbings heated vest in there with the gas bottles though, but that's just me!! THANKS, Cowboy Tom!

Yeah, I should have been clearer, I also put my Gerbing in the right saddlebag. Although I have never had the bottles leak, I put vest, rain gear, etc in the right bag.

I've carried a MSR bottle in the saddlebag of my FXSTS for years... only used it once. Was enough to get me to next gas station! Just remember to change out the gas from time to time so it doesn't go stale. Most auto parts stores have 'o-rings' to replace the gaskets.

A friend of mine rode the ALCAN highway some 15 years ago. He built a 2.5 gal. tank out of aluminum sheet stock to fit 'under' his tour pak. Was only about 2.5-3" tall. Looked pretty slick. Was removable when not needed also.
