Don't have to use the HD Pump but for me is well worth the money was designed for it .. I have Street Glide Shocks on my Electra .. Was my way of lowering it works fine .. Keep about 25 lb's in it for 2 up ...

Buy the HD pump and make sure you screw it on the schrader valve all the way then pump air into it. There is a difference in air pressures between 08 and older and 09 and 10's.

My FLHTK came from the factory with no air in the shocks [by design]. I tried with a bicycle pump but the insert that actually opens the valve was too short. Bought the HD pump after using the dealers. Well worth the money.

You don't need to use the HD pump, but it's the best one to use.
Before I had the HD pump, I would just use a small sports ball hand pump and then check the pressure with a digital pressure gauge after. But the problem is that everytime to check the pressure or put on/remove the pump you would lose some air. There is very little air in the system, so any you lose makes a big difference in the pressure.
The HD pump has a zero loss fitting and the gauge built right in............much easier to use and much more precise. Check out Ebay, they are on there a lot for around $20 or so. Or get one at your dealer on a 20% off weekend sale.

I agree with Steve You don't need to use the HD pump, but it's the best one to use. Also if you are lowering your bike be careful no to use lowering blocks. They have been known to snap off under extreme stress. It is a lille more money to get the correct lowering shocks. I sent mine to bitchin baggers and had them revamp the correct shock and send it back. Money well spent! No worries! Here is the link if you are interested. Good Luck Vinnie

my buddys roag glide has the bitchin bagger shortened shocks...he will be first to tell you that the blocks actually work better and ride better...after riding his 09 glide yesterday i must concur! though he also has a 21 inch front wheel so that might also have something to do with it. You will hear people tell you all sides of this equation...though i had never heard of the "snapping off" at extreme pressure in the above post. that sounds like an old wives tail :-) if i paid like $400 for short HD shocks, i wouldnt want the truth to be that i could have accomplished same thing for $50 either hahaha

i barely use my tour pak or ride 2up. i think i need the 2inch drop? before the lowering blocks i never was flat footed. i have a 30inch inseam and big legs.
i want to lower my bike the right way, so that i can ride to up, but dont have too much money to spend
