Need to replace the shocks on my 1984 Flhtc. Plenty of nice oem takeoffs available cheap on ebay, but they all fit '97 to '08 models. Aftermarket shocks advertise the same part # shocks fitting '80 to '10 models. Anybody know any reason the oems wont fit my '84 ?

 

I checked my parts manual and it shows different part numbers for the years and from what I remember some of them had air suspension and there were replacements that were not.I think I would go by the length and not the model years advertised.

The stock shocks have changed a few times, but they are all interchangeable. A recent newish pair are going to be better than a pair off a bike that might have covered more miles than yours! Be warned that a few HDFers have not been happy with their 09/10 stock shocks. Might be worth looking around here before buying any.
