Second question, Were you just riding around or had you trailered and use tis point as a tie down ??? I just can see why it would just break unless the bolt was just a POS.
I did the same thing, put the Kury on mine right hand bolt sheared lost bth footboard and adjustable footrest took the left one off took bike to dealer they replaced footboard under warranty I went to aftermarket store I bought the Kury's from he contacted Kury and they sold me just the one I needed. Contrary to a lot of belief a grade 8 bolt's strength is for pull strength not shear strength and floorboard bolts are grade 8. I was lucky I started to drill the peice that was still in the mount and it started turning, was able to turn it out. When I mounted the new one on I took a little length of Stainless Steel 1/16 cable and a small squeeze cable clamp and went around the mount and through the board so if it breaks again at least I won't loose it..Good Luck

My same thought exactly!!! Peace of mind, instead of lost piece!!!Thanks Santa!! LOL.....
I had the adjustable Pass foot rests for years on my 98 and now a newer set on my 09. Are you talking about the rest that clamps on the stock floor board ?? If so, what broke, the rest or the stock floor board bolt ???
Be Safe JIM
The bracket bolt for the factory floorboards broke off at the bracket. It does say grade 8 on the bolt but they seem very light. Every thing is gone but the three quarter inch end of the bolt.
The stock 3/8-16 x 1" bolts on the passenger footboard bracket are stamped grade 8 on the bolt head.
Now with that said, socket head cap screws are not grade designated as are hex head cap screws. A standard inch series socket head cap screw is 20% stronger than a Grade 8 hex head cap screw and 50% stronger than a Grade 5 hex cap screw. The tensile strength is a minimum 180,000 psi for sizes 1/2" diameter and smaller and 170,000 psi for 5/8" diameter and larger. My guess is that the MoCo contracts to have their hardware made specifically for them, thus the stamp on the head.
Socket and hex head cap screws are tensile fasteners, as noted by santajim. Their clamping strength is derived from stretching the screws and creating "preload" to combat the external forces seen in the clamped parts. Socket shoulder screws have both tensile and shear applications.

Unbrako and Holo-Krome are top of the line fasteners. I have never been able to find a SS bolt in the Unbrako line but Holo-Krome has SS. Personally I don't trust a SS bolt in a shear application such as the passenger bracket where the MoCo does use one. My hardware of choice for my products is an American made polymer coated SHCS with source traceability from Amor Coat.
I don't use any hardware from any local or big chain hardware stores such as Home Depot or Lowes. Most of the stuff they carry is imported. I buy and use strictly Made in USA.
I just had the same thing happen to my 08 . Bolt shered off lost the same thing on the right side. So I will have the left Adjustable peg. I am not going to put the kury back on.
I went ot Harley today to see if they will warrenty it. waiting for am answer for the service manager.
So let me know if you need the left side kury adjustable peg.
I had mine break and replaced it with a grade 7 cad plated bolt. Grade 7 is not as brittle and is what trucker tie down chains are made of. I don't like using a SS bolt on anything critical.
