88 Ultra to 103 build
Going to juice up my ultra a little. Just put in DD6 kit and picked up on a 103 kit that is missing the crank, Everything else heads - cams - jugs - pistons - gaskets and all are there, But the crank was not. But the price was right, Now I'm looking for a 4 3/8 stroker crank that will fit a 04 twin cam A engine. Should I go with the stock stroker Cast crank [ that would be the one to come with the kit] - Or go SE forged - Or go S&S - I'm not doing the timken change as I won't be beating on it I just want more torque in the low range for 2 up touring and a small trailer. If anyone has a crank or a lead on one that would great too.

If you want an S&S crank you will have to Timken as I am pretty sure they dont make any cranks for stock (ie non timken) bottom ends.
If you wont be "beating on it" then go a stock crank. If you dont need a timken then you dont need a forged crank.
I have the one out of my 09, I dont know if it will fit but its in the shed and you can have it cheap. Freight might make it expensive tho.
What are you gonna do for cam drive??
I have the cam plate, chains, hydraulic tensioners etc etc out of my 09 in the shed as well.
All that stock 96 stuff has 3200 miles on it.

Thank you. I will check with the shop to see about the crank fit. I think it will work, Figure what you want $ for all and a approx. weight on it, I think I would need your address to check shipping $. What shipping service would you use UPS FEDEX ? Have never done anything out of the USA before.

+1 on checking the new crank.
I just started the same project , 88 to 103 build on my 06 Ultra using the HD SE103 kit I bought on Ebay.
My reason for the build was my stock crank had 10 thousandths run out.
To make the motor more durable I sent the new stroker crank to Revolution Performance were they trued, welded, and plugged the crank for $150.00.
They said the run out on the new crank right from the factory was 2 thousandths.
Some additions to the kit im doing are installing the SE Lefty Bearing, the new billet cam plate kit with hydraulic tensioner and high volume oil pump, and the hydraulic primary chain adjuster.

Niiiice setup you have there ! Your way ahead of me on your build. I'm not sure what you mean buy the term plugging the crank ? Is that to balance out the additional weight from the added weld. Keep the pic's coming on your progress. I did not get the crank with my kit, Somehow they lost it so the price was really low and they would order me a new one @ cost but I've heard many stories about the 103 builds having the cranks shift @ the con rods and even ruining the cases that I'm afraid to go with a cast crank. But if you can get it trued - balanced and locked in sounds like that is the way to go. I may have one lined up But the dealer can't tell me if a 09 crank will fit in my 04, As they have never tried this. I'm not sure if I will be able to find this out or not. Talked to three dealerships and got the same answer, Need to check with some of the builders around here next, Someone has to have an 88 and a 96 crank to compare.
