Default Cruise control question

What I gather from the HD site CC will only work with EFI models. Is this correct or will it work on my 01 FLHR which is carbureted? If not what is the next best thing besides throttle lock?

That can't be right. Ultras have had cruise since before EFI. But if you can't find a cruise to fit your bike you're kind of screwed. The only two "throttle assists" I've seen are either cruise or throttle lock.

I can't comment on 2001 availability, but I know that it was available in 1994 for my new, carbureted Electra Glide Classic. It was a MoCo item which I purchased from the dealer's parts department.

Suggest you contact a H-D parts guru to determine whether or not H-D made one for that year. Good luck.

OP, you aren't reading the HD website information correctly since they do provide cruise kits for carbed bikes. An '04 FLHT is a carbed EG Standard; and '04 FLHTI is an EFI EG Standard. Touring models were all EFI after '06.

HD no longer offers in the P&A book a cruise kit for pre-02 models.

Call Dave, the owner, at Cruisemount. He provides a wiring harness that allows you to use the HD cruise kit for '02 Road Kings on your '01 bike:

http://www.cruisemount.com/placeorder.html#roadking

Or, try Dawg and see if he can find a dealer with an older HD cruise kit.

As others have posted yes you can add cruise to your carb bike. My bike is an 01 which came EFI and I converted it to a carb. I still have cruise even with a Mikuni!

Unless anyone has other ideas this is not doable for me. Primary reason, all of my controls are chrome and I am not about to to add this to my bike. Have done a lot of research and can not find it in chrome. So this leaves me asking anyone in the know if there is a chrome conversion??? Is there an after market that has chrome controls?

Not sure what your issue is with chrome controls. You would need to buy chrome lower switch housings for the left and right side; the upper housings are the same cruise or no cruise. Levers, mc, clutch perch, etc. remain the same.

IIRC, the chrome lower housings go for about $30 ea.

I have a local inside tip at the best local HD shop in the area from the wife of yada yada ex parts/HD guru. I will be calling tomorrow, asking for him, getting the skinny and will post what I find. Thanks all !!!! If I can not get it in chrome I will do without.
