Installing E3's and Dyna Beads
#22
The wheel protectors I bought from the local HD shop. They were aftermarket brand (not sure of the brand) and were 9.95 .. They go between the tool and the rim. They work ok with the machine but want to slide away when you rotate the bar to peel the tire off. These protectors are really designed for using tire spoons and changing by hand, but they help with the changer.
Also, did you mount the changer to anything?
It for sure needs to be bolted down. I tried it not bolted and couldn't keep it still. If you didn't want to drill the cement, you could bolt it thru a 3/4" sheet of plywood and you would be standing on the plywood base while you worked to hold it down. I thought about that but the lags worked for me.

I did the E3 by hand and I did not find it any trouble at all. 3 spoons and small bead breaker. Yes it is stiffer than the stock tire but using Ruglyde was the trick. Damn near fell on by itself. The dyna beads work perfectly but try not to be too sloppy with the tire lube. Helps keep the inside of the tire dry which helps the dyna beads work. That's why I changed out my own. I use to change out car tires and we used a small mop to lube the tire and I bet the dealer does to.
Spoons and bead breaker from Pit Posse
Rim protector from Hobby Lobby (bag of scrap leather) works better than the overpriced 1 time use plastic junk.
