Haven't done a touring since I haven't even brought it home from the dealer yet but I generally just slip a 4x4 under the front of my softtail frame with shims to hold it perfectly upright and solid. Then slip the drain pan in under the tranny and pull the plug. You've just gotta be careful you don't kick the blocking out. Even if you do you don't have to be that quick to catch the bike before it lays down.

LOL!!!
I got the yellow sears one by accident so I dont get let into the discussions. If I place it just right I can get to the bolt with it on the lift. I can see that I am going to make a mess though. Maybe I can figure a way to to use the lift just to level it....

Anyway thanks, and FWIW I may switch out the oil anyway. It's only $6 bucks. I'm not sure I like the clunkyness the tranny seems to have now.

Yep, same here. Once it's slowed, I just sit on my roll around stool on the right side, grab the handlebar and upright it a little more to get a little more out.

I use a jack to level the bike and get every drop. I postion the jack as best possible to access the drain plug but its tight. I then use use a small funnel to direct the oil into a low profile pan, which happens to be some of my wifes fine serving ware. This approach works well until she catches me doing it!

i dont use the j&s, i use a condor. same principal, drive the bike right in, step off, the bike is held upright. oil changes are a snap, and no jack parts to worry about being in the way. i have never dripped a drop of tranny oil doing it this way.

Do those floor stands need to be bolted to the concert or are they good free standing ?
