Default FLHX - Installing painted inner fairing. Tips?

So the color matched inner fairing I ordered finally arrived and now comes the question of installation.

It seems like I saw another thread on here with a couple of good tips? (searched tonight and can't find the thread)

If I recall there was...

- Label all wiring
- Cover fender and tank to protect paint
- Have plenty of beer on hand

I know a lot of forum members have done this upgrade and I am looking for any additional suggestions that have proven helpful.

Also - how long should I allow for this? (I will have a pretty experienced helper giving me a hand)

I got a bit nervous when the first thing I came upon in the instruction packet was a template for drilling the holes for the mirrors I gotta admit.

Thanks

Take pictures of everything under the outer fairing before taking it apart. Take your time and plan on all day.

good deal - I look forward to seeing it some time. I'm getting vivid black for mine. Stock inner had a defect so painted will be installed by dealer at MoCo's expense. I just have to pay $$ difference between stock and painted.

I did mine in just under 4 hours. Take your time. No better advice than take pictures and label everything even if you think you will remember.

This is definitely a project I'd like to do. I probably would skip the inner fairing mounted mirrors and pick out some real nice chrome ones that mount on the brake/clutch handles.

I just got my inner fairing delivered yesterday. Did a search on the subject and found a reply that said after install, the stock flat black mirrors looked "Bad". Do you plan on painting yours or leaving them stock? I hate having that much down time (sending mirrors out for paint), was hoping to tear apart and reinstall all in one day.

That is what I did. Also if you sell your old inner fairing, the pre-installed mirrors make it more attractive on Ebay.

Forgot...you will probably have 1, 2, 3 or 4 broken fairing mounts so I would get these replaced under warranty first....then change out your inner.
