FWIW, my '08 UC (stock TC96) doesn't like cruising much under 3000 rpm's so I rarely run in 6th. I guess it depends on what your particular bike likes the best.

Really?! That's nuts. According to my speedometer - that I'm sure is wrong, I'd be doing over 80mph at that rpm. I think it has to depend on what displacement and cam you're running. With the SE255 and 103 I'm good at 2200. Of course it really depends on other factors. Uphill, downhill, cruising, accelerating etc. etc.

i have my bike in the local Harley Shop for a 103" kit. after much discussion and research we ( shop mechanics) and i came up with a good fit for my riding style. ie: highway, group riding, low end torque 2200-2500. now the bike is done and they informed me i should not use 6th gear below 3000-3200 rpm

I changed the gearing on my 08 (partly for that reason), so my answer won't count.

Welcome to the forum BStreet, If I can run @ 70 I use 6th maybe slightly below. I think it turns 2800 @ 70 in 6th (not positive)

Hmmm - well I figure if you're not lugging the engine you should be good. Truly - I think you can tell when you should shift down. These arbitrary rpm numbers make no sense to me. Mind you - what would you expect from someone that hasn't had a tach on a bike for the last 35 years. . . ?

In the flat land of NM, 70mph, 6th gear= 2500 rpm.
