If it's lugging I downshift, if moving close to 3k I upshift.

Ditto, exactly the same for mine.....I don;t think I've had mine over 3500 rpms since I got it new 30k miles ago....I don;t ride it hard, no reason too...

The owners manual for my '08 EG says to shift into 6th gear at 55 mph.

I am doing 80 mph in 6th at 3000 rpm. Putts along nice there.

No tach on the king so not sure of the rpm's, however, I cruise at 70 most of the time in 6th and it does not appear to my ear that it is 'lugging'.

Welcome to the forum Bstreet. I usually shift into 6th gear at 70 MPH.

around 70 mph in 5th gear @3000rpm lots of hills it feel like it bogs in higher gears

Personally I don't shift 6th until I'm over 60 mph. Somewhere around 2200 to 2300 rpm.
