Just ordered my cruise!!!!!
Finally the cold down here got to me and I ordered my cruise control kit. Is it as easy to install as it appears. My bike is carbed, does that pose any problems. My friend that owns a local shop will install for about $125, should I try it, or is better to leave this to someone who has done it before. On a scale of 1 to 10 in mechanic skills, I am probally a 7.

You can look at and download the HD installation instructions for the cruise control kit from HD's website:

Take a look and see if it's something you can do.
At $125, your friend isn't giving you a deal on the job.

I am certainly looking at FLHX's with cruise. But since I am looking at 09s the cruise is an easy add on from what I have seen. Also they are easily purchased after the fact. That said if I get one without cruise when I buy,, it's going to be my first "Aftermarket" purchase!
To the OP, what bike are you putting it on? (You say it's "Carbed" ?) The new cruise won't work on anything that's not "Throttle by wire" I thought? Did you buy an aftermarket one for cables? If so that's probably a much more in depth install than the TBW new bikes....

The '05 and older bikes have a different ignition switch than the '06 and newer bikes so no "alignment" tool is required.
Buy a couple of extra brass ferules for the throttle/idle cables at the grip, and a couple extra of the small "C" clips mentioned in the Service Parts list in the installation instructions, HD p/n 11193. The C clip secures the cruise cable to the throttle; it's small and can be awkward to attach; so, it can easily be "lost" on the shop floor. Having the extra ferules and C clips on hand is cheap job interruption insurance, and you can return them for a refund is you don't use them.
