You can get new vented lowers from Chicago Harley for $519.00 and that includes the hardware and painted to match your bike. The aftermarket lowers on ebay look a little rough on the inside. I have not had good luck with aftermarket stuff on ebay mainly a front fairing and a tour pack. Front fairing warped out of shape and I got my money back with the help of paypal and the "cheap" tour-pak cracked after one week and it went into the trash. Live and learn I guess. Vented fairings are well worth it and I think the quick detach kit would save you a little time getting them on and off the p-clip is a pain. Good Luck

It takes me about 10 minutes to attach or detach. I don't see any real time advantage with the quick detach hardware, but it is better looking.

The "aftermarket" lowers on ebay are cheap chinese knock-offs. Buy them at your own peril. The only real aftermarket hard lowers are the Hogg Chopps. Kind of a different look, but some guys like 'em.

I just went thru this back in October. I bought the HD Quick Detach Kit - Don't waste your money. I removed it and am selling it. Then I went to the dealer and got the following for about $32 (see attached PDF link for exploded view and part number sheet):

You will need the following:
2 each Part # 3655A - Screw
2 each Part # 7415A - Washer
2 each Part # 7576 - Nut
4 each Part # 7716 - Locknut
4 each Part # 8175 - Clip
2 each Part # 207048-84 -Clamp

Get the vented, big difference between open and close.

I sent them a question asking if the lowers were guaranteed to fit and if they would take them back if they didn't. Their asker was no, they would not take them back if you didn't like the way they fit.

Many (myself included) leave the lowers on year round. Even if you want to remove the lowers during the "hot" months, why spend money on "quick" detach hardware since it's unlikely you would be putting them on/taking them off frequently.

I've removed and reinstalled the lowers a couple of times for repainting the bike and installing Hog Tunes fairing lower speaker kit, and the time involved wasn't much. As others have said, for me the quick detach hardware would be a waste of money.

I would definitely buy only vented lowers, as the adjustable vent is very useful to me. Close them in cold weather and rain, open any other time. Combine the vents with the fairing wind deflectors and you mostly protect your legs from wind, the exception being your knees and several inches below.

As for the quick-detach kit, I would advise you to try the lowers in the stock configuration first, then buy the detach kit if you think you'll ever want to remove the lowers. I bought the kit and in two years have yet to remove them, even in summer, so it was a waste of money for me. Even if you remove them in summer only, I don't think the time difference would be enough to justify the high cost of the kit.
