HD /SE Touring Mufflers on a 2005 Road King - Questions
I am getting a set of Touring Mufflers ( 65259-00 ), and am wondering if on my 2005 Road King I can get away with just bolting them on? I know if I do an intake upgrade, that I need to remap the fuel injection. When do the full SE Stage 1 hardware, is the HD dealer download a good option, or should I invest in a SERT or PC and do the tuning myself?
I have issues with my dealer, and would like to avoid their shop if possible. 7 days without a bike for a scheduled 1000K maintenance has driven me away.
Thanks in advance!!!

RE: HD /SE Touring Mufflers on a 2005 Road King - Questions
I have a 2005 EG Classic with the Touring Mufflers, Stage 1 AC, and factory down load. The bike runs great. Just finished a 3,100 mile trip without a stumble. Some people report problems with this combination and go to a tuner, but just the download has been great for me.
The HD catalog says that you do not have to do the download if you just change to the mufflers.. If you go with the SE aircleaner then you will need the download or some other fuel/air mixture controler.
Regards,
Bill

RE: HD /SE Touring Mufflers on a 2005 Road King - Questions
How timely for this topic to come up.
I have an '05 RKC with the same Touring mufflers. I ran the stock slipons with the SE intake and Stage 1 map last year, and put the Touring slipons on with a PCIII recently.
I used a map in the PCIII that seemed to be an improvement over my previous setup, but my gas mileage went to ****. The other day I removed the PCIII until I get around to doing it right and get it to a dyno. The difference performance-wise, with, and without the PCIII is not breathtaking, but the difference in smoothness and throttle response is leaps and bounds better with the PCIII than without. Surprisingly, the bike sounds better without the PC to me, but it runs hotter.
I rode last weekend with a guy with the same setup (Stage 1 map, intake, and the Touring slipons) and he thought his was just fine. I now say he just doesn't know any better. The PC'd bike is way nicer to ride, runs cooler, goes a bit better, but the jury is out on the fuel consumption, for me.
Back to the question......if were you, I'd stick with the stock mufflers until you commit to the SE intake, a SERT or PCIII and dyno. You might want to rethink the Touring mufflers too. They are not really a heck of a lot louder than the stockers, don't sound all that great, and I have reason to suspect they're why I was so underwhelmed with the performance gains. I expected a bigger bang for my buck, and I wasn't willing to give away so much in the mileage department for what I did get.
I'm hoping the PCIII and dyno tune will show improvement in the go dept. with gas consumption I can live with, or the Touring slipons are gonna go on the block. There are too many folks here with experiences that tell me (or will tell you) the Touring slipons are the weak link here.
