Default Stubborn return cable-won't pull out of switch housing

I've done this many, many times but never had this problem.....Maybe you guys have a solution.

I'm dealing wirh a new bike, so it ain't like anything is corroded or damaged.

The problem is I can't jerk the idle/return cable out of the switch housing like I did the throttle cable....I simply won't come out no matter how well lubed or how hard I pull....I even wedged flat screw drivers under it and it still won't release.....I don't care about damage to the switch housing, but I don't want to harm the cable

So short of cutting the housing away, is there a trick when dealing with one like this?

Push the cable back up ino the housing and from the top pry the lock ring off with a pick.

Yep, that sounds like a doable.....I gotta sharpen me an ice pick first.

I'm guessing I can recrimp the lock ring back on before I reinsert the cable into the new housing.

Thanks, Hog-Doc!

Yeah you'll need to straighten it and there will be a bur on the cable fitting you'll need to file smooth!

Ok got it....Pick/pry off ring clamp...straighten it....debur it....recrimp it in the ring land AFTER I file it smooth.

I think you just saved me a lot of work and possibly a new idle cable.

Thanks.

I wouldn't use the old clip. Its mangled and will give you grief later. Just buy a new clip from HD. Might be $0.20 I think.

..The clip WAS mangled and cut deep slots in the old cable ferrel....There was no way to pick the old clip ring loose, so I pried it out using two large flat blade screwdrivers and trashed the cable and bought a new one....Wasn't worried about old switch housings, so I trashed them too.
