Default 2009 Streetglide bottoms out

Has anyone heard of changing over to a Ultra rear shocks to cure that issue?
I have a friend that said, since the shocks are 3/4 of and inch longer that would cure his problem.Has anyone else done this or heard of this?

He either has no pressure or very little in the shocks. Or carrying too much weight or both. Somethings wrong either way.

How much air is he running in the shocks? I bottomed out running 22 lbs. It needs at least 28 lbs for solo and 40 lbs for two up.

You can put the longer shocks on if ya really want more travel.. but as the others before have said try putting more pressure in the shocks first. Mine came from the dealer with about 15 lbs in em and it bottomed out alot on the way home. Now run about 28lbs in them and they're much better, try air pressure first...

Have an 07 SG. Not enough travel. I took my stock shocks off and went to a set of Works 13" shocks with dual springs. It helped the handling a ton. It's amazing what a difference quality shocks with dampening makes on the ride and handling.

You friend would definitely get a better ride with the longer Ultra shocks. Bet it'd be easy to find someone willing to swap, lots of folks want to lower their bikes.

Well thanks for all the imput. It's on the schudule for tomorrow and I was going to check the air pressure and also check for leaks. He's a newbie to the HD market so they may not even been set right. Figure the forum would be an excellant place for some feedback. Thanks again

Everybody who owns a Touring bike with HD shocks needs one of these:

Touring Suspension Air Pump

This pump was designed to allow safe and simple adjustment of the front and rear air suspension on Touring motorcycles. Unlike a bicycle pump or a fuel station air hose, the hand operated pump with controllable "micro bleed" valve allows precise adjustment to air volume, and the "no loss" air connector maintains shock pressure when the fitting is removed. The 4.5" swivel air hose simplifies valve stem attachment. The aluminum housing is compact, lightweight and durable, and fits easily into your bag for "on-the-road" adjustments. The high quality 0-60 psi gauge ensures accurate air pressure.

part number: 54630-03A

For use with Touring Air Suspension components.

MSRP US $46.95

the air pressure is a factor along with body weight of rider passenger. Although a friend from work told me he knows a guy with an Ultra that was having bottoming out problems. The dealer wound up finding the shocks didn't have enough oil in them. they changed out the shocks and checked out of curiosity.
