What happens if you use a Y connector to plug two items into your aux port. Of course I'm asking because one of them is a gps. The other could be anything (Sirius, ipod, etc.)

 

Well, since everyone else is sleeping off Christmas, I'll give it a try. I'm running accessory lights on my saddlebags (07 RK) and they are powered off the accessory line under the seat. I also run a cigarette lighter accessory outlet located on the right side of the bike, off the same accessory line. I use the latter to charge my cell phone. Both lines are fused and no problems for thousands of miles.
If you check the literature on the bike it should tell you what the accessory line is rated for in terms of amps and when you check the literature on the accessories you want to use that should give you an idea how much amperage they draw.
This also shows why any accessories need to be fused.

 

Aaah I don't think that was what Jberg was asking. I would like to know the answer too.

 

I have not done it but I have heard you can. Both will play if both are on though. Post back if you do try it I always have to switch from my ipod to my XM radio just have not bought a Y to try.

 

might work but your GPS will not over ride the Ipod, or XM....might try and sound both, don't know....
and if you do try it, don't tell MHD,,,she'll void your warrenty

 

I know of folks that have moved their aux port to the back of the radio. I don't know if this was a second port, or just moving the original. If it is a second port, that might work for you. Click HERE for the story.

 

i have used a simple y-connector to utilize a MP3 and GPS, and it does work, but if you are running both, they DO NOT override, you get muddled sound. There are units out there that will give priority to one device over another, can't recall the Manufacturer off hand, but if you search, you will find them.

 

I have 2 wyes and run Sirius, Tom Tom, and heated seat without issue

 

1plumr1, unless your heated seat plays music, thats not what jberg is asking. he is asking about getting audio to a single aux port on the radio via 2 seperate sources (mp3, satellite, gps, etc) by using a y-connector.

 

The device that "gives priority to a device in one jack" is made by Kennedy electronics, Google it.

As far as using a Y connector....Typically two devices into one "screws up" the impedance of the jack and volume on both devices is very, very low. I tried it this way with two audio devices once and the volume loss was too great. Sounded like crap.

If you must use two into one go the Kennedy route but realize, the set-up is expensive.
