Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe if you align the dots on the outer cam gears everything will be in the proper position for cam work (all lifters off-lobe).

Also, when reinstalling the pushrod covers does anyone have a trick to compressing that spring loaded part so the top piece can be popped in without making a mess of my fingers?
Use the screwdriver trick already mentioned, but use a large screwdriver. I don't touch the fins, but use Faast Ed's method, and once you get the it down it is amazingly easy.

Anyone have any ideas?
The dimensions should be the same, either way you install them.
I am guessing here (been a long time since I installed mine) that the reasoning is something trivial, such as keeping the number out of a wear point? I could be way off there, but the dimensions have to be the same regardless of which side faces out. I would feel safe with it mounted either way.

I think (and I may be wrong as well), but it seems like all the lifters are never at their lowest point at the same time on these twin cams. Some lifter is slightly elevated at one point or another during the entire revolution of the engine. At least I never was able to get all lifters down at the same time IIRC.

I pulled out and then reinstalled the adjustable pushrods. The second time worked perfectly. I really can't pinpont exactly where I screwed up, but my theory was not being exactly on TDC compression along with the lifters potentially not being at their lowest point. This link got me back on track.

I would like to know the answer to this question as well. It seems the valves are off lobe when the cam gear dots are aligned. It appears that TDC compression on the front cylinder is shortly after that.

I am getting close to done with this project. I will add the final pictures and write up in a few days. The short update is the exhaust is back on and I have a few other odds and ends to take care of. I still have to button up the pushrod covers. I will take another crack at those this week. Those spring loaded covers are aggrevating.

That is true. I busted a knuckle even with my brother helping on the first one. They take about 2 seconds to snap back in place once you get the first one done.

Soon. I am shooting for this weekend to post the series. No time off for me right now. Only work and family running around the house. Thanks!
