"best power tuning ? "
I've been doing some research on "Best Power Tuning" and wondered if anyone has an opinion (qualified or not ) on this kind of tuning.
I understand how the PC-V operates and am hoping you do as well so I don't have to get into that. BTW, 09 FLHR w/pc-v and V and H bigshots ( loud as **** BTW).
Best power tuning checks each data point , throttle position at such and such RPM (colums and rows) and sets AFR at whatever is delivering the best power at that particular data point. Obviously, this type of tuning isn't going to do wonders for gas mileage, on the other hand it would eliminate any decel popping or slight pings at hard acceleration and things like that. I guess it's a toss up, you want the actual available power at all times or 45 miles to the gallon ? I think I'm going with the power, but I'm interested to hear anyone's experience or thoughts on this subject, Merry Xmas everyone !!!

In my opinion................
You can't beat a TTS Mastertune and a good Dyno Tune from a guy who knows what he's doing. That hard part is finding that dyno guy who knows what he's doing, but once you do, hold onto him and make him your friend.
I've had auto-tune systems as well as other EFI tuning devices, and I've been to other dyno tuners in my area.................but until I went with the TTS and Bean at Big Boyz Cycles, I never knew what a true dyno tuned bike was supposed to run like.
Again, just my opinion.

Rambone;
I agree with you that a tuner should allow you to check what's going on across the RPM range, and allow you to adjust AFR accordingly. Several of the better tuners on the market allow that now. Given that the best of these tuners allow you to capture baseline settings as a distinct and unique set of values, there's nothing to lose by making a change and trying it, in about the time it takes to plug a laptop in, you can always return to an earlier mapping.
What's best? I'm afraid we all have a tendency to say that what WE happen to have is "the best". I have had several different tuners over the years, and can say that there have been plusses and minuses about all of them.
I think everyone should talk to a good tuner or engine builder that they trust in order to figure out what's best for them.

You can have both with the PCV. I have auto tune with mine. I had a PCIII on my ultra prior to switching over to the PCV/AT. I had it dyno'd with the PCIII. I saved the power tune on my PC. When I installed the PCV/AT from FM the canned map was not even close to my set up. I ran the bike for a few hours on AT and then read the trims. Some were in the mid twenties. Fuel miliage was in the low 30's. I started tweaking untill I had the MPG's in the mid 40's. After a 3800 mile cross country run I was averaging 42. HIgh of 48 mpg. I then went back to my PCIII dyno power tune and moved those settings to my PCV refined map. I did this only for settings from 60% throttle and up. I can only run this combo map in open loop so that the AT will not change the 60% and up TP settings. All my crusing is 40% TP and lower. Another way to have both is to make your base map for power and set the AT for economy and use the Switch to toggle between the two. Of course you must have AT to do this.
