What ever you do ... don't go for a taller conventional / stock HD windshield. Not because they don't work (and they don't) but also because it changes the character of the bike's slammed down look. Stand back and look at what your 4 inch stock offers as to the "look" of the bike and add 12 inches. That would suck.
I have the 6.5 Klockwerks and maintained the slammed look and gained a change in "air flow". The buffeting is just no longer there... just the breeze. I am about 5'8" so it may be different for someone taller or shorter than me.

I have played with a boatload of windshields and lower fairing and fork air management. (I ride with a 3/4 or full face helmet.
Here is some of it from another thread. I liked the HD adjustable air deflectors, part 58166-08 for the fairing. And made my own smoked fork deflectors that fit around the SG turn signals. It took those two items smooth out the helmet shake all the way past 100mph, regardless of windshield. Side note, the HD fork baffle helps for some, part number 58520-79TC.
Some windshield notes;
Stock windshield, cool looking but I couldn't read the road signs from the head shakes over 45mph.
Klockwerks mid size, some call it a 6", some a 8", but it was nasty for wind buffeting on my set up.
Clearview 8" recurve, much better, but a little short to block enough air for my 5'10" long torso.
Clearview 9.5" recure, very good for me and is on the bike now. John makes really nice stuff. I can see over it well, through it when raining, and with the little lowers is a nice set up. Before the lowers, it was buffeting above 60mph for me. It has now gone to 100+ just fine.
Cee Bailey SSG 16", Blocks and moves the air around the driver well. Just a bit tall for me (bad quess on my part) and this will be cut down and tried again. Very high quality product. I put this shield on a long torso 6'4" co-workers Ultra and it was too short for him. This shield with the little fork lowers would be a very good touring set up for someone about 6' to 6'3". (sent it back and they cut it down to 13", very nice now)
Kuryakyn Airmaster - This windshield has a really nice and quiet sweet spot about 3" lower than I normally sit. Not enough recurve to get the air and noise above my head.
