No doubt about it, black is beautiful. It's also high maintenance...and I mean high maintenance....particularly if you're the type that details his machines to perfection. Had a couple of them there black bikes and a couple of black hotrods too, but no more. Got tired of the ridiculous amount of time required to keep them scratch free. Now I spend my time riding and driving instead of polishing - plus it seems that everybody has a black Harley. Just go into any bar at any rally and announce that there's a black Harley outside with the lights still on - you'll clear that bar right out. I stayed close with this last SG though - it's black pearl and keeps easy.
When I went in to buy a new Streetglide I chose the sunglow red. I thought is was hot! The Dealer then told me it was an additional $600.00 for color! The sticker price was for the bike in black, color was an option that had to be paid for. I walked and bought a used Roadking, black of course!
Got rid of my 07 vivid black SG and bought an 09 SG in Sunglo Red. One of the best decisions I've made. The vivid black looked awesome when it was detailed out but to me it was way too much work to keep it clean. There will be no more black bikes or cars in my garage.
LOL at these threads.... I have 2 black trucks... the woman has a black car and a black bike. Every bike I have owned has been black... does it suck to keep clean? Yes but it's worth it.
I have one of each in the garage! I love my vivid black Ultra but ever since bringing home mama's new Heritage in red hot sunglo I think I'm jealous. That's a HOT color!
