Default question about cams to choose

well my wife is buying me adjustable push rods and cam install kit for christmas i just have to decide which ones to choose. i had been leaning towards se255 but a local harley mechanic told me i would need to do head work on my bike to make these work but from what i have heard on here that doesnt seem true. i have rinehart true duals, se air cleaner, and stage one download right now. just want to add the cams and a tuner. i do about alot of 2up riding with the wife so just want more torque for better acceleration and passing power

I have the Andrews 26 and they run great. Do a search and you'll get a TON of info on cams that people have installed.

I have Andrews 37G (gear driven), no head work. Was the best modification I made to the bike. I know very little about cams, I just have a mechanic I trust, so I took his word. May do head work later.

255's Stage One here..no head work .

I also have the TD Rheinhart's, the 255's made them alot louder. Other than that I am very happy with the 255's.

Head work is not required. If you want to squeeze more out of the cams, headwork would help. Many people just bolt in cams and go and are very happy. I was happy with my Andrews 26 cams (till I decided there is no such thing as too much....), Iclick is happy with his 255's, and so on. Bolting in cams is one of the easiest performance mods past the standard stage 1. Pulling the heads is not hard, but is a bit more involved.

Look up Jamie from fuelmoto. He did a write up on the woods TW6-6 that was really impresive.

I got wood TW6-6 for my FLHTCU. Hopefully they go in this weekend.

By the way, you don't need the cam install kit. It has a bunch of crap you don't need in there. You need like three o-rings, a circlip and the cam chest cover gasket. Might need a cam gear shim kit. Less than $25. It might not hurt to put the B168 Timkin bearings in while you're in there.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

SE 255's are good for more low end and two up riding. There are more aggressive cams with top end range, so you have to consider your RPM range and driving style. I have the 255's and 103BB kit in my 09 RKC, and love it!! Good luck

Anyone know if H-D sells the Timkens B-168s? I'm ordering from overseas so want to get everything sent together if possible.
