Default Is $1000 bucks a fair price for se 255 cams installed?

Hi, I've been reading all the posts recently about cams and after talking with a few, I have decided to go with the 255's for my 07 sg, I got two estimates from local dealers and one said about $1000 and the other said about 1250. I'm trying to find an Indy that has a Dyno so they can fine tune it after install and hopefully get a better price. Does that sound like it is in the ball park or not? Also is there anything else I should do why I'm having this done? I have rinehart true duals, big sucker and pc. Thanks Todd

My dealer quoted me $350 to install plus parts if they used adjustable pushrods. So figure 350 + 300 (cams) + 165 (pushrods) + 60 (cam install gasket set) + ? for shop supplies. Sound like more than I would want to spend to just the cams. Check around and you will likey find 103 stage II kits installed for 1800 +/-.
I did mine myself for alot less. I bought the used cams from a friend for 100, 165 for the push rods, 60 for the gaskets and 90 for a tool to remove and install the bearings and 300 for a full dyno tune. Just about 700 including the tune and you could do it cheaper by not buying the gasket kit, just buy the gaskets you need.

1000 sounds like a full bore flat rate quote...It's about 5 hrs and parts. Then a dyno tune (250.00 here..)because power commander maps are close but could be better. There is a map that would be close for you it is M812-042. You can download it at their site.

For a $1000 and $1250 it should include the Dyno tune

Mine cost me 930 and that is with new bearings and stage II map installed which by the way I do not recamend. The dyno after the instalation is the way to go. I had the SEPRT tuner installed later and that made a big difference in the way the bike ran.

Only if it includes a full dyno tune.

I was quoted six hours of labor at $62 plus parts and supplies. I will probably do the job myself.

This afternoon I got a quote from a large Los Angeles dealer for labor on SE 103 stage 2 kit (pistons, auto compression releases, and 255 cams). Also, Dyno tune. $1150 including the tune, $900 for the engine work without the dyno. This is on an 07 RoadGlide. This did the same job last spring on my 07 Dyna for the same price.

Here's a breakdown for our shop:

labor 3.5 x 78.00 273.00
cams 300.00
push rods 150.00
inner bearings(timkin) 20.00
gaskets 75.00
lifters 112.00
shop supplies 25.00
remap 78.00
total 1033.00

the lifters assumes that your '07 has over 5000 miles. We wont install new cams on old lifters if your over 5K to much chance for lifter roller/cam lobe failure.

So not out of line at the shop charging 1000.00

I had just under $800.00 in mine, parts and labor (with SE Adjustable PR's) at local HD dealership.
