500 Mile Service...and then....?
It seems to be important to get a new Hog to the dealer for the 1st 500 mile service...where they change the oil, filters, check it over, etc.
After this initial service, who takes their scoot back to the dealer for an oil change unless there is a problem that needs to be fixed? What do they actually do besides an oil/filter change...and why is it beneficial?
Thanks...

I think the first service is done at the 1000 mile mark, not 500, unless they've changed that. You can, of course, do it sooner if you want to. Speaking for me personally, I like doing my own oil changes so no, I don't take it back to the dealer for that. If I need to have the bike in the shop for other reasons anyway and the bike is close to needing the oil change, I'll let them do it. It doesn't take long and I don't have to worry about disposing of the waste oil. As for the rest of it, most of what they do is simply look things over. The drive belt "might" need a little tweaking and I'm sure there are other parts that wear in and could use a minor adjustment here and there during the break-in process. It's beneficial because it keeps the mechanics of the bike optimized. That's always a good thing but none of it is stuff you can't do yourself if you've got the slightest mechanical inclinations. The factory shop manual is a good investment if you're so inclined.
