In the bitter cold!

Went to a meeting a week or so ago, the temp was 29 when I left on the bike then I ran into some fog and that started to freeze with the wind chill. I had a 1/4 to 1/2" of ice on the mirrors and fairing when I pulled over to check the road to make sure it was safe. The ice started to melt as soon as I stoped so I knew I was ok but I'll tell you it was kind of freaky. never got to cold other than my hands.

26 degrees at my house yesterday when I left for our toy run. Quickly warmed up to almost 30 by 10am. By the time our ride started at 1 pm, it was a very pleasant 40 degrees.
The 40 mile-long ride down early in the morning, and the ride home after dark was fairly cold. My riding buddy has heated riding gear which he loves. (and needs, he doesn't have a windshield). With my fairing, lowers and a proper windshield, the wind isn't so much a factor. You need good gloves, and to dress sensibly. I took a pair of long johns to wear under my jeans and chaps, but didn't wear them. If my ride home would have been much longer, I would have stopped and put them on.
I took off my 5" windshield and put on a 8" clearview with recurve. That was a key move.

That fairing makes a huge difference! God, I loved my Ultra. I've ridden down around the freezing point many times, but I like to call it a day when I feel the needles in my legs.
