Default Cam Chain Tensioners on 2002 RKC 33K miles- PICS

Hi everyone, this is my first post other than the intro post that I did a little while ago. Thank goodness that I found out about the tensioner issue on this forum! I have an 02 RKC with 33K miles. Decided to replace the tensioners with S&S Gear Drive with 510 cams and also added Daytona Twin Tec feul management. The bike was running fine with no problems at all. Look at the tensioner pics that I just took this morning. I got my bike back yesterday from a local guy here in N. GA that works only on Harley bikes. He does my tire changes and works on a lot of people's Harleys around here. The new cams sound really nice and throttle response is a lot better too. Can hear a slight "whine" with the gear drives, but not bad at all. To all the people out there with the older tensioners....please have them check or replaced! I'm glad that I did. Larry

Aren't those just lovely!
Just think, all that material was cruising around in your motor, too.

Nice upgrade on the cams, decent grunt from those 510's.

Yeah I know....20K or more on bikes with this type of crap for so many years. Can believe it. Also, I read that that there's nothing in the manual about recommendations to check/replace these things....not sure about that. I don't have a manual, just what I read. I was going to go with the new setup that's on the 07s and above, but thought I would just do gear drive instead. I don't want to worry! Man...I just want to ride!!

I have 20k on my 06 RKC and I was going that way but I don't plan to do a 95 kit. Only because I may later on buy new. I was thinking of going with Harley's fix and do the SE hydraulic cam chain tensioner plate upgade kit. I just have not heard much about it. It is what is in the 96 motors to what I understand. Part #25284-08

Hi Rick,
I thought about the new kit that's available that you are referring to. I was going to be able to get it on ebay for about 350.00. But I plan on keeping my 2002 for a long time as I need to get some debt paid down from stupid decisions that I've made.....I didn't want to have to worry about any type of tensioners to even think about. I'm especially glad that I went with gear now that I saw what came out of my bike a couple of days ago! I would like to get 100K or more miles out of my bike if possible. I found the gear drive (best price that I could find) at phat performance parts for about $607.00. I then purchased screamin eagle adjustable push rods for $135.00 (ebay) and then added the Daytona Twin Tec Fuel Mgt for $200.00. Labor was $250.00. Def....not cheap, but cheaper than payments on a new bike and now hopefully I won't have to worry. Larry

I just feel like I can check them at 25k and trade at 30k for an 11 or an 10 leftover. DEPT paid down I can understand. I am doing a 12 pay this next year and be dept free. So that means the Harley will no longer get it's one something a month. Zero spending for 12 months.............

I just got back from riding a little today. A little cool (low 40s), but fine. I just got the bike back on yesterday from the gear install and I've very pleased with the power and smoothness of torque at higher RPMs. I'm pleased with the Daytona Fuel Tek too. No hesitation. Didn't know what I was missing until now! I also just picked up a used set of Rush slip ons with 2.00 baffles. I had Vance and Hines classic slip ons, but just wasn't real pleased with the sound. I had just heard some Rush mufflers on another bike and really liked the sound.

I just had a S&S gear drive with the 510 cams put in my 06 streetglide it has 22k miles on it. Tensioners were not real bad , but the screaming eagle cams that were previously installed were all pitted where it rides on the bearings so I am happy that was caught cause it could have been messy. I have not had a chance to ride cause we got snow here
