Default Fairing Radio Question

I have a fairing for my RKC. I am going to do a radio and 2 6x9 speakers. Do I need and amp? Should I use an amp? if so how many channels? and who makes a small one to fit inside the fairing?

Currently I'm running with a Panasonic headunit, the Biketronics retrofit adapter, Biketronics 5.25" speakers and the Hogtunes tweeter pod. I'm satisifed with the tunes even at highway speed.

On road trips I use the IMC bluetooth headset and have it paired to my iPhone. I use the iPhone obviously for incoming calls but also for tunes and navigation. Listen to stereo music and if a call comes in music stops and automatically picks up the call. If a turn is coming up navigation directions will cut in and tell me which way to go. Love the setup.

As far as an amp. Sure, would like to get one just to get more power but don't really need it plus don't have the $$$ right now. When/if I go with an amp I would either go with the Biketronics or the J&M amp that they are working on.

Hope this helps.

I just got the Woody's fairing. It has 4 5" speakers and it's plenty loud with my sony head unit, no amp. my wife on her bike behind me to "turn that **** down or get louder pipes".

You can't go wrong with the Woody's fairing and the sony head unit is like $119. fairing comes with the speakers!

get with wayne (firecap501). he can hook you up with an arc mini. you may not necessarily need the amp, but you will be glad that you got it when you're on the highway.

Dawg, I have a Kenwood unit KDC-X493 (22wx4 RMS) with four 5" Polk Audio speakers db501 (marine - 45w RMS) and no amp in my Quadzilla fairing. Sounds clear parked or running 90mph (didn't try it going faster than that).

Q Hog,

I will be running 6x9's do you think I will still be good with no amp? I guess for cost reasons I should try no amp first and then add one later if I think it's needed.

Dawg, it all depends on you head unit and speaker specs. 6x9s normally come with alot of wattages. Just make sure you check for the RMS on both the head unit and speakers before you buy it.

I am dumb when it comes to this. What am I looking for when I look at the RMS? Here are the specs on the speakers I want:

3-way 6"x9" speakers (pair)
injection-molded mica-filled polypropylene woofer with polyether foam surround
2" Mylar cone midrange driver, 3/4" silk dome tweeter
4-ohm impedance
2-70 watts RMS power range
frequency response: 53-22,000 Hz
sensitivity: 93.0 dB
depth: 3-1/4"
warranty: 1 year
