Default Tried to buy Harley FLHT today...

Local dealer had left over 09 FLHT that I have been looking at for a while that I decided to buy. Was originally going to wait until spring, but figured since they had the bike I wanted and were offering no payments/interest for 6 months thought it would be perfect time to get bike and customize it over the winter. Had security and cruise.

MSRP was $17449 plus $270 cruise and $345 security for a total of $18064. Dealer wanted additional $180 for doc fee plus $997 for processing/freight, plus tax, title, & license. I offered $16000 plus tax, title, and license for a total of $17010 OTD w/ $1000 gift card (HD is offering gift cards on new 09/10 bikes).

Dealer countered with $18700 OTD w/out gift card and said they had to pay for no payment/interest deal so I couldn't do that either.

I walked, told them my deal was good until 5pm today.

Do do you guys think? Was my offer fair?

B.

I am amazed at the bikes I see sitting in the showrooms and these guys aren't willing to "deal" at all or very little. I guess there are enough guys who want bikes that will pay and the dealers can afford their floor plan or however they are carring the money. As many almost new, used bikes that are on the market it almost makes more sense to buy from an individual.

GTRPLYR, hang tough!! That is the reason I dont even darken their door.
I picked up an 08 RKC in Aug. that had 4.1K on the clock for $13 K.
Plenty of HD on craigslist. And as it gets colder and the economy ?????

Run don't walk from it. You said HD is giving the gift cards, are they all $1000? Any how, what are they going to do with your gift card? Also, don't pay any set-up/processing fees. 1500 under MSRP was a reasonable offer for a 09. On a side note, the cruise and security are a nice add on.

Everyone has there own opinion and you asked so here's mine. MSRP + MSRP on all options, IE security and cruise ( I'll use your listed price as MSRP) + $50 doc. fee, Tax (8.9% where I live so I'll use that) and License ($35 again here). Gift card is on HD not the dealer so that stays and my local dealer was going to throw in both the 1K and 5K service if I went with the '09, so you should get that, ( I took the 2010 and paid for my service). NO frieght and NO setup charges!

17449 + 270 + 345 = 18064 + 8.9% tax = 19672 + 50 +35 = $19,757 Out the Door with the $1,000 gift card and first two services on them. That's a fair price in my opinion. Of course your tax and license will be different. From what I've seen, the dealer is going to get MSRP, but you should get some comps as stated above. Good luck!

Stand your ground, They will be calling SOON!! I've been dealing with quite a few the past month. And just when you count them out they come calling back. Just be patient.

Most of these dealers today have never seen a hard economy where thay had to trim the fat and make deals to stay in bussiness.

It seems to me (lightly said that is) the best deals are up north.
Down here -southern Tennessee and north Alabama/Georgia- They are being hard headed. Which is strange right now.
Hold your ground but I would also look at slightly used.

I was going to trade up to a 2010 ultra limited but no one wanted my business.

I paid $18,800 OTD for my 07 Ultra and no one is willing to any where come close to that now.

hang in there you will find a deal.

Sorry, but this is about $2000 more than the OP offered. I would stick to your guns and stay with your offer. $1500 under MSRP for a 09 FLHT is about right no matter where you live.

Is there ABS included. I would hold my ground and if you do decide..they MUST include the gift card.
