I bought my 2009 Ultra and felt I got great trading my 2006 in but with things as they are today , I would think someone at HD would be saying it is time to cut some prices to make deals and keep customers. I love my Harley but there are so many other brands out there that are pushing Harley to make better deals or lose customers. I remember when you had to order one and wait a year or more to get one and now they are sitting all over the showrooms. Remember MSRP is recommended and maybe should be looked at a little closer.

I got my Road glide in February of this year and paid $18,445 and after taxes($1,433.77) and tags, it was $20,000.00 OTD. MSRP for my bike is $19,594 (color, security, California emissions) So I paid $1148.77 under MSRP which took care of most of the tax. Depending on how you look at it, I got the bike for MSRP with tags and no tax or I got the bike for $1,149 off MSRP your choice.

I say hold out for the deal you gave them or go somewhere else.

My local dealership is doing the gift cards and MSRP on all bikes. They have been really good to me on the two bikes I have bought from them. These folks are feeling the pinch here. They are moving used bikes but few new bikes.

It really doesn't matter what any of us think. There are many on here that would say if they GAVE you the bike and handed you a $1,000.00 they still got a better deal or to wait them out for more...lol. The only one the matters is what the dealers thinks of your offer and since you aren't riding it I'd say he didn't think much of it. You should be able to get him down though now that you know what he WON'T do.

Had security and cruise.

MSRP was $17449 plus $270 cruise and $345 security for a total of $18064. Dealer wanted additional $180 for doc fee plus $997 for processing/freight, plus tax, title, & license. I offered $16000 plus tax, title, and license for a total of $17010 OTD w/ $1000 gift card (HD is offering gift cards on new 09/10 bikes).

Dealer countered with $18700 OTD w/out gift card and said they had to pay for no payment/interest deal so I couldn't do that either.

I walked, told them my deal was good until 5pm today.

Do do you guys think? Was my offer fair?

Way to walk
I got my 09' FLHX last December and the sales receipt says,
Total Bike Price; $18,000
3% NC Highway Use Tax; $540
Tag/Title/Doc Fee; $253
Total Sales Price; $18,793
This is a black plain jane Street Glide, which I really dig.
Oh and I got a HD leather vest with local HOG patch and 1 year (local HOG) membership, Detail starter kit and a battery tender.

I'd have walked too. There's more than one dealer around that's for sure and with old man winter coming, they'll want to move inventory.

If a new 09 is still not sold at the end of November, it's because the dealer is smelling his own cork. You are probably not the first who has tried to negotiate with them and you won't be the last either. Your offer was very fair but don't hold your breath.
Look elsewhere and if you are open to buying a pre-owned bike, there are lots of great deals on eBay and Craigslist.

gtrplyr, 1,000 replies could say your "offer" was "fair," but if the dealer isn't accepting your offer what difference does it make--will you sleep better, think your dealer is a jerk, etc.?

Why the dealer is holding out for MSRP on a left over '09 in Nov. '10 is anyone's guess. If you want one, PM Dawg and ask him to do a dealer locator for that bike and he'll give you a list of dealers who have one--just let him know how far you are willing to travel. Then contact those dealers and see if you can buy one for your price.

The black denim FLHT was one of the more popular bikes in '09. For all you know, other dealers have offered swaps to get it, other individuals have tried to buy it like you, sales have been good enough he isn't hungry enough to discount it, etc. Whatever the reason, the dealer believes he can make more money than you offered on that specific bike.

Just keep shopping for what you want.
