Yellowstone is marvelous. If you go in from the North East Entrance you will have a chance at seeing all the animals. We even saw a bear a few weeks ago! Do not miss Beartooth pass and Chief Joseph Highway. Do not miss Beartooth pass and Chief Joseph Highway. Do not miss Beartooth pass and Chief Joseph Highway. Get the idea? You could do a loop from Red Lodge or you could take the Bear Tooth (212)from Red Lodge and then back on Chief Joseph (296) and you'll end up at 120 about 20 miles north of Cody
Bear Tooth has been called Americas most scenic highway. You will not be disappointed! There's tons of stuff on the internet. Here's one link:

Don't miss Beartooh Highway and the Chief Joseph Trail.
Don't miss the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody. Allot at least 4 hours for this.
A good place to eat in Red Lodge, Mt. is Bogart's. It's right on Main Street. Has a candy store right next to it for dessert.
In Yellowstone watch out for the buffalo. They think they own the road.
When you get to Twin Falls, don't miss a trip out to the falls.
Regards,
Bill

The comments on Red Lodge, Beartooth Pass, Cody, Custer, etc. are right on. Check and re-check your map. The more 'secondary' (two lane) roads you do, the more enjoyable your trip will be IMHO. Go at your own pace, have a 'great' plan and let things happen. I you don't do all of it....there is the next time. As said numerous times before, the trip can be better than the destination. Best to you.

RE: Planning a road trip.......
We are planning to hit Beartooth Pass, Red Lodge, and Yellowstone in August. The plan is to head out to Sturgis drop the truck and trailer off and ride out to the Pass and Yellowstone. Think we'll spend three days out there and then head back to spend a couple days at the Sturgis Rally. I've been to Sturgis the last three years so I could skip that part all together, but my buddy has never been so I promised I would give him a couple days in Sturgis before loading up and driving back home to Michigan.
Anyone else going on a similar trip during that week?
