Default starting problems for 2007 ultra

seems to be worst on cold nights ,push starter switch and no sound, i can tap on the starter with my knife and it will finally engage the starter. sometimes i just tap a few times ,other times it takes a lot. The starter connections are tight, and all bolts are tight. any help will be appreciated .

Click HERE to download what might be your problem. I had the same exact problem on my 08. It ended up not being that though, it ended up being the ignition switch. I was always tapping my starter, but then I figured out if I wiggled the ignition switch it would fire right up so the switch was replaced. However, check both the ignition and the bulletin. Mine also had no sound whatsoever.

my brother has a 07 ultra and has the same problem. It onkly happens once in a while
but he hits the starter button and nothing. sometimes it would take about ten menutes
before it would finely start. He put a starter button from j&p cycle that mounts on the
solenoid. it is about 50 smacks but works every time. The starter switch on the
handle bars is not affected

Ther was a service report issued from Harley about this particular problem that talked about the need to re-torque the starter mounting bolts. Mine too (07 FLHTC) did the same exact thing and after the re-torque, it never happened again. Check with your dealer about this service report.

Pull the cap off the starter solenoid and clean the contacts with some emory cloth. I could hit the starter button (nothing) then release it and get a click. Cleaned the contacts and it's been perfect for a year now. Simple fix for my problem, hope it may do same for you.

Mine did the same thing. I didn't know anything about the service bulletin that Dawg posted. I tracked mine down myself to a loose starter. The service bulletin that Dawg posted was right on the money for mine.
