Default HD lower fairings on RK/RKC

Just bought me a set (non-vented) and wanted to hear from RK owners that have them, and what they think? Living in WA I'll probably be happy with the non-vented style most of the year, but am also thinking of adding some aftermarket vents to them. I thought I read somewhere on here there are some available??

Also, I'm guessing I'll lose my Kuryakyn cruise peg mounts I have on the crash bar, what types will work with the lowers? Can I get a quick detach set up for the lowers? Also, I'm going to have to remove my chrome fork mounted air deflectors, so those will most likely hit the classifieds if anyones looking for a good used set.

The lowers have glove boxes, what are my options for locking doors to replace the flaps? Any other tips or mods will be appreciated.

Thanks fellas.

Hi neighbor! I'm also in Wa (Lake Tapps, near Tacoma) and I put lowers on my bike this fall. Mine are also non-vented, and I imagine I'm just going to take them off in the summer. Sooner or later, I'll put the quich detach hardware on them, mostly because the standard clamps are fugly, but I'm not in any hurry. I've seen the quick detach clamps, but don't have the part number offhand.

I've looked at the aftermarket vents, but haven't found any I like, so I'll probably not even bother with them. Hoppe has some vents, and they're probably as good as you're going to find on the aftermarket. I just don't really care for them. I don't think it's even going to be an issue, except in July and August, and I imagine I'll just take them off for our warmest months.

I installed vented lowers on my RKC last Spring. I kept them on all summer, without heat issue. I think they add a "complete" look to the bike, and also some added functionality with the glove boxes.

+1 on the lowers for Road Kings.

Vents are available thru flea-bay, for around $30. You cut the foward edge of the lower and pop em in. As for tips or mods, heres my old RK with lowers:

Hey neighbor, down in Woodland. Yeah, I'm thinking they'll be fine most of the year. But we do travel to hotter temps at least once a summer and I just wanted to open my options up if I decide I want the add-on vents.

Your bike was one I did see, and actually convinced me they look great on a non fairing bike. Nicely done!

I have also added the lower fairings to my Road King, Except mine are the vented. Mine had the Hog Trough hard door on the when I purchased them and would recommend them to anybody.

I can't tell by your picture which hwy pegs you have but I have the Harley adjustable hwy peg angled kit p/n 50829-07a. these are the long mounts but I think the shorts would have worked just as well. (pegs not in my current picture)

From what I have been told the wind deflectors won't work with the fairing lower. If you going to sell them give me a pm. I have been wanting to pick up a set and cut them down to clear the lowers and see how the work. I will write a report on what I find out if I get them..

The quick release mounts really don't and anything. The quick release only effects the bottom mount and might save you 2 min a side taking them on and off. it take me maybe 5 min a side to R&R them.

Adds a nice look to the scoots, I may try a set next year once the other half stops whining about the DC fairing! It arrives today!

Thanks Tex, that answers a few of my questions. I have the Kuryakyn long angle mounts. I will let you know on the wind deflectors.

On another note; Any luck on the job search? Good luck and thanks.

I've been doing some looking and have a couple of good prospects. I did go down to Texas Work Force in Orange Texas and got some good info. To be very honest I was very pleased and surprised at how professional this office was. I didn't spend any time waiting. They gave me a quick brief of what I needed to do, placed me at computer and put me to work on doing what I need to do. it didn't stop there, they check on me every ten min or so till I was done.

After I was done with that they placed me with VA rep (I am retired military) and he reviewed everything I had just put in the computer. He made recommendation and changes to my on-line resume and was very informative.

Like I said, I was impressed for a State run office to be so professional and even seemed to actually care.

Bake to bikes!

While I was looking at the foot pegs for mine I looked at the same hwy pegs you have and I don't think you will have any problem using them. The only reason I didn't buy them was Harley shop didn't have them in stock and I had a weak moment and wipped out the credit card.

My best to you.

Mods were 5.25 in the windshield, and 6.5's glassed in the lowers. I had a xm receiver mounted on the tank console, antenna mounted on top of the front brake resevoir, with the wire ran internal of the bars. 4-Channel amp mounted in the saddle bag with quick disconnect. Windshield pod also had a quick disconnect. It was a good set up, and worked well. Im currently building bolt in speaker pods for non vented lowers on a 2000 ultra. They will be recessed and hold 6.5" speakers along with allowing enough room to add the pop in vents. Once the molds are complete I should be able to mass produce them.
