Mine is a 2002 firefighter special. I think the same thing. Great bike. Last of the forged cranks but you wanna check/change the cam tensioners.

No major concerns. Some people don't care for the MM FI system, if it isn't carbed. I have 77k miles on my FI system and have had no troubles.

15K miles is brand new
Stage 1 air cleaner and MM fuel injection standard on '01 Police bike
Maintenance is required to be kept up while the Police bikes are in service - some see some pretty rough duty
Higher ratio final drive than later 96 cu. in. bikes makes it as quick or quicker off the line, but runs higher RPM on the highway than 6-speeds
Black painted headlight nacelle
Passenger pegs and seat are not standard
Air-ride rider seat, Heritage-style handlebars and 2" taller windshield are standard
Pucks to open the saddlebags rather than the double-joint latch of a civilian bike
Wiring harness can get hacked up in civilian conversion - Police-style switches are usually left on the hand controls
Original run-flat rear tire is not rated for 2-up
"Blank canvas" for for customization that should be priced much less than a comparable civilian bike

Don't see one bad thing on the list - not that I'm biased...

i got my 2001 FLHP new with only 9 miles. I put 69K on it before getting an 09. only problem was cam chain tensioners which i replaced with gear drive. The 2001 still had higher compression than the civilian version. 2002 engines are the same i understand.

I have a 2001 FLHPI and bought it new-to-me at around 45,000 miles. The biggest problems I had with the bike were fuel system related. I think the bike sat for an extended period, which led to the problems.

Given that the bike you are looking at is 8-9 years old and has only 15,000 miles on it, keep in mind it may have also sat for an extended period and may suffer from similar fuel system problems.

The bikes ride fine over the long haul, are comfortable, but certainly feel big. If you are doing a lot of city riding, you may want to consider another model. If you are on the highway, they ride like a dream.

Not so certain about that Stage I air cleaner....I rode a 2001 as an assigned bike for a short while. It along with the other 14 we rode did not have a Stage I....Neither does our current 2003 duty bikes.

There's lots of misinformation regarding police bikes. (SE heads, different cams, etc.) I'm starting to think it's because different PD's ordered options on their fleet bikes. Of course, I have nothing to base that on other than conjecture.

All the reliable source material I've read indicates that the pre-07 police bikes were just the same as the civilian bikes with the obvious differences in seats, switches, lighting and tires.

I'm sure that some departments very well have ordered options on their bikes. However the only way to know for sure is to contact them directly.
