As many have mentioned, go for it. Don't let a dealer scare you about this one. It is NOT a difficult job. I've seen dealers charging 350-450 for labor. I allowed hours for the job thinking there is probably something tricky I'd run into. Nope, had lots of time left over. Use some tape to label the wires so they find their way home faster, use some protective covers for your fender, tank, lights or whatever and you're good to go. Some nicer variations of your basic tools are nice to have, but not a must have.
The more I do on my bikes, the more I realize the prices for dealer work is absurd for many tasks.
For humor, but also a very true story; I ordered wheels, tires, rotors, bearings for my bike recently. All I wanted was the bearings installed and the tires mounted/balanced. The dealer price? $378. No joke. Thats a labor charge only gentlemen. I mentioned I didn't want them installed on the bike, they said that price reflected my request. Since they were having a special 3 hour sale after Thanksgiving, I said screw it and bought the bearing install tool instead for a pinch over 200. I had a local well known shop remove the stock tires off the OE wheels (for storage reasons), mount & balance my new wheels/tires all for $60. I now have the tool to do my future wheels, and bearing replacement when needed, and I can help anybody with their bearing needs. Tool was costly, but I'm still ahead. Same dealer also wanted $332 for a new tire + install when I got a nail in my '09 bagger with me bringing in the wheel.
Do it, it's not hard! And best of luck.
