I have an '08 Street Glide with the stock cast wheels and the "dreaded" rubber valve. I want replace it with a steel valve and install the Tiregard tire pressure monitoring system (I was told that the manufacturer recommends steel/rigid valve stems). My question is has anyone used the TireGard system? And, has anyone replaced the rubber valve stem with a steel one without removing the tire from the bike and removing the tire? If you have, suggestions as to how you go about it?
I have an 09 FLHT with stock rims. I have the hardest time putting air in the tires.
I bought a EZ-Tire gauge that allows you to connect it to the valve stem then use a standard air compress at a service station.
FYI-just looked at a utube of a tire valve replacement on a scooter using a C-clamp and a pair of vise grips. Nothing yet on a HD wheel and tire though. And, I have no experience with the TireGard that's why I put out the question.
I tried with the c clamp with no success. One side of the tire has to be moved off the rim to do the job right. Oh yeah, if you have trouble checking or airing up your tires, for $10 StopnGo.com has a nifty right angle extension air valve.
