A Switch from Softail Classic to Ultra Limited
#21
I agree, I recently moved to a 2010 ultra classic from an 1100 VStar, the bike is very well balance and have no concerns while in motion, however I am only 5'6' w/29" inseam so I was a little concerned with a passenger at stops on uneven ground. I purchased the seat listed in the Service bulletin M-1265, it made a big improvement. My feet are flat with my legs straight and I'm still undecided about lowering shocks, but a new pair of boots with more heal may be the better choice. I don't want to risk ride quality.

My Experience
Two months ago, I went from an 06 Herritage with 35K miles on it to an 2010 ultra. After 2500 miles, I'm still way less confident on this bike. I installed the rear lowering shocks, and sent my seat to MCC. The stock seat is a piece of crap. After MCC alterations, my seat is comfortable and about an inch lower. I'm 5-10/170 lbs. I don't have a reach problem, as i can reach the ground OK. I do have a problem with the passenger floorboards. They are not in the same location as on the Herritage. They bump my leg and keep me from getting a decent foothold in backing up the bike. It's hard. I have little problem starting and stopping, even two up. But i do have a huge problem turning the bike, especially two up. I often wish i had a football field to turn in. I have gently laid the bike over once 2 days after purchase. I'm determined to keep this bike and master it. I still have my 06 Herritage and still would rather ride it except for the creature comforts.

If you don't duckwalk the bike, you wont even know you have rear floorboards. Put about 1000 miles on the bike, get the Ride Like a Pro dvd and practice the techniques that are taught. You wont be a duckwalker then and you wont be intimidated by slow speed maneuvering such as in parking lots. You'll love the Limited.
