I did this inspection last winter. I used an inspection mirror but can't say I came away 100% satisfied that I had gotten a thorough look in the inner tensioner. This winter I'm going to true duals and since taking off the exhaust is the biggest part of this job I'll be looking at the tensioners again. I was wondering if anyone had used one of the snake style inspection cameras to do this job. They are getting a lot cheaper and I can see several uses for one. The cheaper ones just have a real time screen, and the more expensive have a recording device. I would think this would be a pretty common shop tool in a pro shop these days. Anyone done this?
tagged too - how often do you reckon it's worth checking? I've got my 2001 Fatboy torn apart right now - exhaust's off so easy access. Wan't planning on looking but obviously I could.

I start looking at 20k and do it every 10k thereafter.

Hard to say when is the best time to check. I'd say it's probably worth doing if you are halfway there anyway. Some (few) report failures at < 10k while others run well past 50k without giving them a second thought. If you are in the 20-30k range, I'd say it is worth it for the price of a gasket.
