I have had some chrome done at Browns http://www.brownsplating.com/ many many years ago and it was tops then and apparently is still of quality today since it's still in business. I have also had some work done at Pauls http://www.paulschrome.com/ out of PA and they also do some fine work.
Advanced chrome plating/powdercoating is also pretty good from what I hear but I haven't had anything from there before. http://www.advancedplating.com/.

There was also a place in California that I had heard of a few years past and I think it was mentioned in AIM magazine but you would have to search that out. It was rated tops at the time.

I'm not questioning the quality but someone wrote earlier than they're cheaper than HD. I just called them and they quoted me $450 for chroming my 2009 Ultra Classic forks.

$153 per lower leg and $74 per upper slider.

I can buy a brand new chrome front end kit from Harley for 100 bucks less than this ($355 from HD of Chicago). I can also sell my stock forks on eBay and I don't have to wait 3 of 4 weeks.

Did I miss something?

I called Paul's Chrome 2mn ago. Since I live in the Burgh, they're very close. They quoted me $99 per lower leg and $27.50 per slider.
That's a total of $255, which is $200 less than Browns.
My bike isn't a show queen, I bought it to ride it so it's a no-brainer to me.
