Default Touring Seat dilemma

Greetings,

Looking to purchase a comfortable, H-D Touring Seat, to replace the stock seat on my 2010 Street Glide. I want to purchase a H-D seat b/c I can get a nice discount on a H-D product, through my Dealership. They are good to me so I make all of my purchases through them. My options are:

1. The new Harley Hammock Touring seat @ $499.95 MSRP or
2. Sundowner Deep Bucket H-D seat @ $299.95.

I'm having a hard time justifying the huge price difference btw the two. I've got my mind made up of one or the other. Not interested in the Zeppelin or other H-D seats...

The Hammock seat is 17 1/2 inches wide, and the Sundowner is 16 inches wide. Does a wider seat cause discomfort/pressure points issues?

Does anyone have the Hammock seat, and do you recommend it and/or do you believe the huge price difference is justified?

Tks all,

BB

Default Hammock all the way worth the bucks

I have and use the Hammock seat, love it, went to the Wisconson to pick up my newest bike (2010 Ultra Classic Limited) brought the Hamock seat with me as I loved it so much on my 2009 ...... I also own a air zepplin seat, I like the Hammock more and now own 2 of them.... when you are riding from Wisconson to San Diego, you need a good comfortable seat, this is it..... 980 miles in one day of the trip... my butt was just starting to feel the miles, I needed to stop anyways, I usually ride 600 miles a day max... you will love the hammock seat, had the sundowner seat a year ago, sold it on e-bay.... didn't get the ride that I expected from it.

I have the Sundowner deep bucket. It is extremely comfortable for myself and also for my wife. (We are both 50 years old). We both have been riding for many years. Years ago I rode my rigid Panhead with a 10" over Wide Glide front end from Lubbock, TX to Grand Forks, ND with an old pair of blue jeans folded in quarter for a seat. My point is I don't need my motorcycle to be as comfortable as a recliner at home. For $300, you can not beat the Sundowner. Period.

You'll get a lot of different responses to this question. I personally have the sundowner on an electra glide and like it a lot. One thing to look at is the width of the seat on the front part by the tank. The wider the seat is there the more it will spread your stance there fore some people have a hard time flat footing the bike. Three people have sat on my bike and went with the same set up, sundowner seat and wo 575 chubby bars.

i hated the stock seat on my 08 streetglide. i found in the forum classifieds a roadglide seat, and it's a huge improvement, for far less than the sundowner i bought right after realizing that the stock streetglide seat sux. it's sorta like their windshield, the seat also looks very cool on the showroom floor, but fifty miles away from the dealership and you're turning around to get a real shield and shop for a seat. i'm six feet four inches tall and the sundowner seats foam seemed to crush down to the seat pan after two hours. sold it on ebay and got the roadglide seat. lots of options, corbin, le para, etc, i like my roadglide seat far better than the sundowner, it doesn't look anywhere as dorky as the sundowner either. actually looks mighty sharp on my streetglide. good luck, my next seat may be a corbin if i decide to stick with my bike.

i don't have a Sundowner seat and the reason is it's no wider than a stock seat and in my experience the wider the seat the better. i do have a Hammock seat and so far so good it's wider than the stock seat and cushy in a good way. i like my Hammock seat so far now is it worth the price difference? is was for me.

I have the hammock. My wife states it's a very comfortable seat and I have to agree. I'm 6 foot and have no problems with my feet touching the ground. It's the most expensive seat I've purchased. It was worth the investment. Keep in mind, the WAF is very important.

Bob.
