True Duals or 2 into 1?

True Duals or 2 into 1?
I've had Santee straight throughs on my 04 Road King Classic which I love for the sound and the one piece look. However, the quality has been less than great and they now need replacing. The question is; with what? True Duals or 2 into 1, that is the questions. Your thoughts and opinions...

Since you rarely see your bike while riding it why worry about it too much unless you are catering to your riding buddies opinions . Of course if you just can't stand the 2-1 look then go TD. I get the " I hate those 2-1 exhausts , how can you stand that thing" comments from time to time and then also get the "man that is a really cool exhaust , never heard of it where can I check one out?" comments too.

I agree that 2-into-1's don't look right on a bagger, but there is an alternative to the performance you get with them while retaining the dual look. Jackpot mufflers from Fuel Moto have an asymmetrical baffle design that emulate a 2-into-1 system, so you can have the dual look without a performance hit. They sound a bit like a 2-into-1, IMO, so you'll need to decide if you like that exhaust tone. One selling point of true-duals is the even stereophonic sound you get with the 50:50 design, but there is a performance hit in the low-end. Since that is sacred territory for me these are not an option regardless of the sound or look. Just my 2¢.

We've had a similar discussion on this very topic quite recently! The difference in performance between true duals and a 2 into 1 is likely to be very small. I have TDs on my bike and they run great. My S&S 107 is giving the book figures published by S&S and that is good enough for me! Choose which you like the best.
