You are going the long route by starting off with Mother's. It is not abrasive enough. You would have made better time if you had stripped the clear with aircraft stripper, then sanded a few fine grits and polished with rubbing compound, polishing compound, and then Mothers....or better yet, pull the leg, strip the clear and polish on a bench mounted buffer. I can knock out a pair of legs in less than an hour.
As far as repolishing everyweekend...B.S.....Polished aluminum might need a hand job once or twice a year on a garaged bike. I polished my Ironhead over 15 years ago. I might hit it with Mother's once a year. It still has plenty of shine. One thing for certain, polished aluminum won't peel like chrome, especially the cheapazz chrome HD sometimes sells.

I polished both of mine in under two hours three years ago. Using a palm sander 600,800,1200,&2000 grit sandpaper then used glitzs and a polishing wheel attached to a drill to bring it to a better than chrome shine. Best of all for the past three years they still look great with very little maintenance just some brasso twice a year followed by some wax.
