Default Rider Backrest Question

Does anyone know if this Harley Road King Classic style rider backrest will work with a Mustang one piece touring seat?

If there is no slot in the seat it will not work.

I do have a slot but after looking at the price for a Harley backrest and then buying the adjustable kit I think I may go with the Mustang backrest. Can you buy a Harley backrest without the adjustable kit? Looking at the Harley accessory page it doesn't look like it.

I had the HD adjustable backrest on my Ultra and put it on the RK, so that fits. I got a Mustang seat for the UG and also got the Mustang backrest. The point I'm trying to make is that I've had both the HD adjustable and Mustang backrest. I'm pretty confident that the HD backrest will work with the Mustang seat (assuming the hole is there as you've noted), but IMO the Mustang backrest is better and hinges forward much easier making it easier to step through/across.

1. Yes H-D does make a non-adjustable backrest setup. See below.

2. You would need to compare your Mustang to a H-D seat to see if the slots line up.

Road King® Classic Style Rider Backrest Kit

Add back support for long-haul riding comfort. Contoured backrest pad is shaped to provide full lower back support without pushing the rider forward, and the slim profile offers the passenger a few more inches of room. An adjustable support bracket with four mounting locations accommodates different seats and riding positions. The backrest pad angle can be adjusted for maximum comfort.

52583-09A

Fits '88-later Touring models (except Trike) equipped with one-piece slotted seat. Installation requires separate purchase of model-specific Rider Backrest Hardware Kit.

MSRP US $189.95

I have a Mustang seat on my Roadking. When I decided to add a backrest I looked at both the Harley and Mustang backrest. I decided to go with the Mustang and I'm glad I did. From what I've seen of friends HD backrest I think the Mustang works better. It's also much easier to remove and will easily fold up and go in the saddlebag when not in use. Good Luck.

From what I've been able to tell Mustang is the only aftermarket seat that will work with the Harley backrest, but not the solo seat. Only the 1-piece seat. I would call Mustang before buying just to be sure though.
