we used Wix filters at work on everything from a JD 644E, JD 510, 3 @ Volvo tractors, 20 pickup trucks, stationary gas driven pumps and everything in between. in over 20 years we never had one engine or filter failure.

Wix ftw

A micron is equal to .000039 of an inch. 5 microns is equal to .000195 inches. 22 microns is equal to .000858 inches. I think you have your figures reversed.

Nothing wrong with Wix filters. It's just a question of whether or not you want to use a filter that can be used on a Briggs and Stratton lawn mower engine or a Yugo and everything in between. I prefer to err on the side of the MoCo in this instance.

I thought a Micron was a micrometer...which should be I believe one millionth of a meter. SO...5 microns would definitely be smaller than 21.

Ride safe, Mike

Default filters

motorcycleinfo.calsci.com has a lot of info and interesting reading. On the left side of their screen you'll find the contents and I read the oil section and filter section several times. It appears that he/they have done pretty extensive testing of various filters. Not saying it's definitive, but I found it interesting.

Wix ftw

ALL of which are also WATER COOLED engines unlike a HD which is air cooled. BIG, HUGE difference!

I've said it dozens of times. Guys kill me that spend $20,000.00 on a motorcycle and then spend $100.00 a on flashy piece of chrome that serves no purpose other than looks and yet try a save a friggin DOLLAR on a $10.00 oil filter that protects your $20,000.00 investment...STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES.

what exactly does a air cooled vs water cooled engine have to do with the filtration properties of an oil filter?
i can tell you from experience we ran our heavy equipment harder than any HD rider would ever experience and no failures of the engines or the filters. we also routinely sent samples of oil to http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ for testing again no issues.
buy whatever filter you feel comfortable with all i'm saying is Wix makes one of if not the best filters on the market.

Give me a break. Most people have to save money to make a $20,000 investment. Doesn't the $1 I save on the oil filter count? Again I ask and I know some have searched.....How many engine failures due to "subpar" oil filters?
Actually as long as you change the stupid thing and use a decent weight of oil are you going to have a failure?
