Tool Rental Board...opinions?

No one cares about something they didn't pay for like the person that spent their hard earned money on it. There are very few people I will loan anything too and tools are on the bottom of the loan list. I also would rather go to a friends house and help than just hand over the tool.

I always buy the tool I need for any giving job and then keep it, You can never say you will only use it one time, you may need it again down the road. I will only loan a tool to a friend and would never charge them.
Being a mechanic , I love tools. another reason I don't mine buying tools

An old thread that obviously didn't pan out.
My father told me to never loan tools and I've found that to be good advice. Right now there's only one person I'll lend tools to and that's my son.
Now, I'll help most people by going to them, or them coming to me but refuse to charge anything. If they want to provide food and/or beverages I'm happy to accept but accepting cash can create an implied contract that makes me very uncomfortable.
Specialized tools can present interesting challenges. Often they can be fabricated, often not. I have found on more than one occasion that, even if I had the tool, the actual repair is outside my experience and comfort zone. There are repairs that I find it's better for me to pay someone who has the proper tools and the training and experience to do the job correctly.
