Have decided I want to change my gear ratio and this thread has some good info on it. How come the cruise control won't work with Evo49T? I can live without the 6th gear light, but a tourer without cruise control, NO WAY. Was sold on this till I realized this little problem. Was considering a cam change for more low end grunt, think a gear change makes more sense. How come nobody talks about changing the rear sprocket? Will the 09 and up rear sprocket fit an 08? This seems to be more of a problem than it ought to be.
I finally got to ride my bike last Sunday and the 49T sprocket made a large difference. I can now take large hills in 6th gear as long as I hit 60MPH before climbing over, no problems at all on the minor hills, and I can roar up steep hills in 5th that I could only go up in 4th last year.
The cruise does still work on 07's but not newer and people don't change the rear sprocket because you would loose the IDS system.
The sprocket on the 09's don't fit the older bikes because Harley designed 1/2 the IDS sprocket into the rim.
That's all I know about it.

If you have a tts mastertune and reset the primary ratio in the ecm the cruise should work in 08's. 09's have a wider wheel with the ids being integrated and won't interchange on earlier. Mike

I went to TTS MasterTune, SE255 cams, the SE Compensator and changed the drive ratio with a Andrews 30 tooth drive pulley and a 07 Sportster 68 tooth rear pulley. Yes I got rid of the IDS I installed. My overall drive ratio 3.07 vs. 2.79. I am generating more torque in the lower rpms, I've put over 400 miles on it. And I can say I don't miss the IDS at all!

I have my 49t installed and am very pleased with it.

My "too tall" gearing is just right now. No regrets.

I don't, I have SERT. Out of luck on the cruise I guess. Further study on this required.

Mike,

If you have the older SERT, you can talk to TTS, they will upgrade it to TTS MasterTune for $99 and you will have the 6th gear light and cruise control. Plus it allows you to self tune your bike from here on out with the VTune feature. $99 well invested, in my option.

I had heard about that, but didn't see any real advantage for me.......until now! Thanks!
